Alex Wilt
LMSW, LCSW
I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan. During my time at Michigan, I worked in Dr. Ashley Gearhardt’s Food and Addiction Science and Treatment (FAST) Lab where I explored how high reward foods, food advertising, and motivations to eat impact our eating behavior. I went on to receive my Master’s Degree from the Columbia School of Social Work, where I was trained in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Intensive Training Program and Lab. I have extensive experience using DBT to help people struggling with food addiction, binge eating, and emotional eating, and I have practiced comprehensive DBT with people seeking support for anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, and personality disorders, among other mental health conditions. I am fully licensed to practice in Michigan, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Therapy is a collaborative process
I believe in approaching our work together in a collaborative way. It’s important for you to reflect on your goals and use the wisdom from your own personal experience, while I offer evidence-based strategies and accountability to keep you on track.
Progress happens when we are curious and nonjudgmental
Change is most effective when you approach your problems with curiosity, compassion, and a non-judgmental lens.
All our behaviors are caused and are understandable
It can sometimes feel like we keep repeating the same patterns and making the same mistakes for no reason. Rather than beat yourself up, you can redirect your attention towards uncovering the reasons why you behave in certain ways, so you can develop new effective strategies to address the root causes.
The reasons why we binge eat are often complex
Your urges to eat and food cravings are caused by what you’re eating, how much (or little) you’re eating, when you’re eating, your biology, and how you manage your thoughts and emotions. Identifying the root causes is essential to finding long-term, sustainable solutions.
